"What a relief to know that the war is over..."

Our buddy Sam Amidon's new album is, like his last, a gentler heartbreaker. Sam's completely affectless—but wholly affecting—voice is paired once again with Nico Mulhy's subtly lush (yes, paradoxical) arrangements and Valgeir Sigurðsson's crystalizing production. And this time he find's a wonderful foil in Beth Orton on several songs, including the arresting cover of R. Kelly's "Relief."
