New Mogwai Song

On the synesthetically-titled "The Sun Smells Too Loud" from their forthcoming sixth LP—The Hawk Is HowlingMogwai toy with a slightly new dynamic, more incessant and driving and with fewer soft/loud crescendos.  The synths sound great, reminding me of Painful-era Yo La Tengo, when Ira got obsessed with the Farfisa ("Sudden Organ"!) It also sounds a bit like their new tour buddies, Fuck Buttons.

Mr. Beast was a bit of a let-down, so I'm excited to hear more from this new one. And I might have the chance when the play in NYC in September.

The Hawk Is Howling comes out 9/23 via Matador.
